On September 28th, 2017, The Women's Center hosted a networking event for the alumni of Goldman Sachs 10,000 women. Around 48 alumni businesswomen of 10,000 Women program participated in this event. Additionally, representatives from USAID’s PROMOTE- WIE and Microfinance bank participated in this event
The Women's Center's Executive Director (ED), Ms. Nadia Behboodi, welcomed the alumni and started the event by remarking on the necessity of a strong network of female business professionals sharing knowledge and experience. Participants in the event were able to receive valuable insights from the practices and experiences of successful business women in their group. These experiences were shared through panel discussions. The panel discussions also identified key challenges female entrepreneurs faced in developing their businesses and what steps they took in resolving these challenges. Some of these challenges expressed by the panel participants included a lack of support
by the government, lack of access to the market, balancing business and familylife, shortage in sales, and a limited consumer base. Representatives of the Promote program and the Microfinance bank also provided insights into opportunities for female led businesses including financing opportunities for further growth and development of their businesses.
At the end of the event, certificates of appreciation were awarded to four successful business women for their excellent work in successfully developing their businesses. These women have played an essential role in providing employment opportunities for Afghan women despite the fragile state of the Afghan Economy.
